About Books & Me:

Books & Me Children's Chinese library is a lending library providing high quality Chinese-language books, audio/video materials and culturally significant activities for parents & children on-site. Books & Me Children's Chinese library is operated by the Zhaoyu Cultural Foundation, a 501(3)(C) nonprofit organization registered in the State of California.

Library Policies:

General Policy

  1. A valid Book & Me library card (the "Library Card") must be presented when entering the Library.
  2. Library privileges and Library Cards may be revoked if abused.

Library Card Issuing & Use Policy

  1. Library Cards may be issued to any California resident who is 18 years of age or older upon completion of the Library Card application form and providing a valid proof of identity and current address.
  2. A set of 2 Library Cards will be issued to each family under the applicant's name. Each family can have only one account with the Library. The account owner is the registered borrower.
  3. The registered borrower is responsible for all charges incurred for any overdue, lost or damaged library materials.
  4. If a Library Card is lost or stolen, the registered borrower is responsible for all charges incurred until the Library is notified.
  5. The first set of Library Cards is free. Every replacement set is subject to a $10 replacement fee. All library fines and fees on previous cards (lost or stolen) must be paid before a replacement set can be issued.

Onsite Service Policy

  1. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while in the Library or the surrounding parking area. .
  2. All materials and activities posing potential hazard to people or Library property are forbidden on the library premises.
  3. No pets, roller-blading, skateboarding, biking, sports equipment, large toys, or noisy toys in the Library.
  4. No smoking or alcohol of any kind will be permitted.
  5. No loud or abusive language to be used on the library premises.
  6. Personal cassette, cd, mp3 and other audio players may not be used in the library except with headphones. If library staff determines that the noise level is still to high he/she may ask the individual to turn off their player or leave the library.
  7. No selling or solicitation of any kind.
  8. No running, jumping or roughhousing
  9. The Library is not responsible for the loss or theft of personal belongings; therefore please keep them with you at all times.
  10. The Library does not restrict access to materials based on age. It is the parents or guardians responsibility to select age appropriate materials for their children.
  11. The Library reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.
  12. The Library reserves the right to ask any person(s) disrupting the library environment to leave the premises.

Loan Policy

  1. All circulating materials must be checked out before they are taken out of the Library. It is illegal to remove any item from the Library without first checking it out. (California Penal Code 490.5). All materials should be returned in the condition they were in prior to check out.
  2. No more than 6 items can be simultaneously checked out, in any 2-week interval.
  3. Loan period for all materials is 2 weeks. On loan materials can be renewed once if another member has not reserved them. Please call the Library by phone or check onsite with the librarian for renewal.
  4. An overdue item is declared lost if it is not returned within 30 days of its due date. A fee (see Circulation Fines and Fees below) will be charged to the borrower's account when an item is declared lost.

Circulation Fines and Fees

  1. Replacement Library Card(s): $10.00 for a set of 2 new cards
  2. Overdue:
    1. $ 0.25 per day for printed materials
    2. $ 0.50 per day for audio,video and other materials
    3. Any item that is overdue for 30 days is declared lost
  3. Lost or damaged items: $25 per item.

Confidentiality of Records

The Library recognizes our responsibility to protect individual's right of privacy. California law requires confidentiality of registration and circulation records. Questions asked, materials read, and information supplied at registration are all confidential. No such information will be disclosed to any person, local agency, or state agency except as follows or required by any applicable laws:
  1. By a person acting within the scope of his or her duties within the administration of the Library.
  2. By a person, authorized in written by the individual to whom the record pertains, to inspect the records.
  3. By order of the appropriate superior court.
(All circulation records and other records identifying the names of library users and their transactions with the library are confidential. These records include: personal names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, fines and fees. No library employees may utilize these records for any other purposes except directly related to his or her library duties.)


Limits of Liability

While the library and its staff will make every reasonable effort to protect library members records and information, to the extent that some of this information will be sent over the public internet (library material reservations, members names, etc) to our website for the convenience of our members, all library members need to understand and accept the risks and exposures involved inherent in usage of the public internet and hereby accept that the library will in no event be liable to the members for any special, consequential, indirect or similar damages resulting from the theft or inadvertent loss of members personal information sent on the internet or to our public server(s).

Ms. Sheena Chin, a TV news veteran, has worked for Broadcasting Company of China (BCC), Taiwan, China Television Company (CTV), Taiwan, and KTSF Channel 26, SF bay area. In her more-than-ten-year TV news career, Ms. Chin has been a reporter, an anchor, an editor and a producer. She specializes in verbal communication, transcript writing and children education. Ms. Chin received her Bachelor degree from Chinese Culture University, Taiwan and Master degree from Cheng Chi National University, Taiwan
